Ο Al Pacino σε μία από τις καλύτερες ερμηνείες της καρίερας του (και η μοναδική που του έφερε το χρυσό αγαλματάκι). Υποδύεται έναν άνθρωπο σκληρό αλλά ταυτόχρονα και τρυφερό, έναν άνθρωπο αγενή αλλά ταυτόχρονα και γοητευτικό, έναν άνθρωπο που έχει σταματήσει να βλέπει το καλό γύρω του, που έχει χάσει την όρεξη του για ζωή. Έρχεται όμως ένα νέο παιδί να του θυμίσει πως υπάρχουν ακόμα άνθρωποι με αξίες, που νοιάζονται και που δεν πουλιούνται για τίποτα, και να του δώσει κάτι για να πιαστεί, να καταλάβει πως υπάρχουν πράγματα που αξίζει να ζεις και να αγωνίζεσαι γι` αυτά. Πράγματα που τελικά τον βοηθάνε να ξαναβρεί την χαμένη του όρεξη για ζωή. Μία ταινία γραμμένη σχεδόν ολόκληρη πάνω στον Al Pacino, ο οποίος καταφέρνει να βγάλει και γέλιο και συγκίνηση, ενώ στη σκηνή του "δικαστηρίου", είναι απλά καθηλωτικός...
